How Tik Tok affects main stream media
TikTok is the most popular social media platform but how does the world of TikTok bleed into mainstream media? Tiktok is an app where anyone can make 15, 30, or 60 second videos. Different audios or dances go viral and start a trend then everyone takes part in creating videos based off of the trend. Sometimes when a trend goes viral various news channels will create a story and air it during the show taking up a significant amount of airtime. The time being used to talk about TikTok takes time away from more important stories. Since so many people pay attention to TikTok, hearing the familiar audio of a tik tok trend on the tv grabs the attention of viewers. Recently Burger King made an ad using a popular TikTok audio with trending dance that goes with it. The trend is where a question is asked and then the response is given after while doing the dance. Burger King used this to answer questions about the menu as well as showing what is on the menu. TikTok has so much effect on mainstream media that companies pay for their ad to air on tv and use a tik tok trend to make the ad instead of the traditional ads most businesses make.

TikTok not only affects mainstream media but it changes it. TikTok also has sponsored videos, essentially ads on the FYP (for you page). The companies make different ads to put on TikTok than what they would air on TV. These ads are tailored to TikTok users. Companies will also make hashtags or filters that end up trending and simultaneously advertising. Businesses will make TikTok accounts to advertise. Companies like RyanAir, an airplane line, has a TikTok and participates in comedy TikTok trends.
