Celebrity Brands Vs. The People’s Demands

There’s always a new brand being launched by someone’s favorite celebrity. Could these lucrative companies be donating their profits to charity, instead of adding to the piles of cash that the celebrities are already sitting on? The top celebrity owned brands are all making hundreds of millions of dollars, if not billions of dollars off of their fan base, but in reality these companies should be giving back, instead of taking more.

Some examples of companies that are owned by celebrities are Good American Denim – owned by Khloé Kardashian, Pleasing Beauty- owned by Harry Styles, and Octobers Very Own – owned by Drake. These companies are all side hustles of these celebrities who already have made fortunes off of their main talent. Even if these celebrities put lots of time and effort into their brands, and try to make them sustainable; they are still making a profit at the end of the day. The money that these superstars make could be going to homeless or starving people who could use even the smallest fraction of what they make to survive.

Many people may argue that some of these celebrity brands are sustainable and use good materials, or even work with nonprofits to give back a little bit. For example, Pleasing Beauty works with Nest, a non-profit that helps small artists grow. These small things are true for some of these celebrity brands, however the majority of these brands are fast fashion, and use plastic for packaging. Additionally, even if these brands are eco-friendly or give a small margin of their profits to non-profits, the fact is that the celebrities are still making most of the money, when they should be giving it all back to people in need. This solution is productive for both the clients and owners of the brands, as well as helpful for people in need. The companies could still create products, and sell them, however once they break even, the profits go to charity. This is an easy way to stop adding unnecessary funds to these people’s bank accounts, and start giving it to the people who need it the most.
