Shutting down the panini and ice cream machine is pointless and should reopen due to student’s opinions. 

Because of COVID-19, both the panini and ice cream machine have been shut down and put away. This is affecting students because it is limiting what they can eat due to dietary restrictions or simply not finding the hot lunch appetizing. 

For some, making paninis was the only option for lunch because of dietary restrictions. For example, if students are restricted from the food in the hot lunch, they can make an alternative lunch with the panini machine. For others, the hot lunch wasn’t appetizing. The panini machine was used in a way to please everyone, but now that it is gone, people are upset. The panini machine was a very unique part of the dinning hall because it allowed for students and even teachers to make what they wanted. Although a person can still make lunch sandwiches without using the panini press, most students prefer to make other things that require the machine like grilled cheeses or toasted bagels.

Hackley has the opportunity to meet everyone’s expectations for lunch. Because COVID-19 is a serious precaution, spreading germs is something to think about and be careful of. However, it makes no sense that the salad bar is still open because it can spread just as many, if not, more germs. Therefore, if the salad bar is open, then the panini machine should be as well. 

On the other hand, the ice cream machine in the dining hall was the most popular. It used to be a nice treat for all students and faculty at school. Many students at Hackley are mad about the shutdown of the machine, and the students feel like there is no reason why it should stay off. This is one of the reasons why the lunch at Hackley stands out because it was special to the school. In short, the ice cream machine should open like the salad bar. 

 Shutting down the panini and ice cream machine is pointless and should reopen due to student opinions. In order for this to happen, Hackley should listen to their student’s opinions.
