Music at Hackley

In gathering information about muisc from 38 9th grade students, many things were learned. Firstly, it is estimated that majority of students in the 9th grade listen to music from one to three hours each day. Listening to music so much each day can have different kinds of impacts and effects on a person. A few people reported that listening to music can affect their mood. Ninth grade student Suka Nwiido said, “music can affect the way I feel. When I am listening to a sad song it can often leave me feeling sad if I can relate to the lysics on a more personal level, but if I listen to a happy song it can boost my mood”. Additionally, Suka said, “sometimes music can ground me and act as a good outlet for when I am feeling stressed. I can put on a calm song and it will make me more calm”.

Results of the survey show that out of the same thirty eight students, 55.3% selected rap as their favorite genre of music. Additionally, 50% of the students selected pop, then indie with 26.3%, and hip-hop and R&B following with both 21.1%. In the rap genre the claimed favorite artists were: Kanye West, Drake, Juice WRLD, Tyler The Creator, and Kendrick Lamar. In the pop genre, some favorite artists were Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, Frank Ocean, Conan gray, and Harry Styles. In the alternative genre some favortie artists were Billie Eilish, Mac DeMarco, Clairo and TV Girl. The favorite R&B artists were SZA and Kali Uchis. Lastly, in the country genre the common favorite artist was Morgan Wallen

 

 

 

 

 

Out of the different music streaming platforms, 67.5% of thye students use Spotify as their main streaming platform. The secondary platform that is popular is Apple Music, and 21.8% of students use that to stream music. There are other additional platforms such as Youtube, and Soundcloud following behind.
