Global Warming

Turn off your lights, close the tabs on your computer, and take shorter showers. These are just some of the small things that you can do to make an impact in climate change.

It might not make sense to someone why closing the tabs on their computer makes a difference because it’s hard to understand how this connects to the melting of ice caps melting and climate change. Computers are a source of energy that almost everybody has that is run on electricity. Un.org explains that although electricity is thought to not release that much greenhouse gas, it actually does release a lot. A good example is electric cars versus gas fueled cars. According to carbonbrief.org there is a lot of greenhouse gasses released by electric cars, just not as much as gas fueled cars. This is because electricity is still made via energy sources such as coal around the world.

The American Museum of Natural History says that energy use is one of the leading causes of climate change. A way for students to help this cause is to reduce their energy usage.

It is important to know that change starts when people decide to change. If we as a community decide to change for the better and reduce our energy use, we could encourage other schools to do the same.
