Study halls are not effective and should be optional for 9th graders. Students throughout the week are forced to attend study hall and do homework. Although study hall is created with good intentions of providing students dedicated time for schoolwork, they often fall short of their goal and can be unproductive. Students should have an alternative choic
e to get their homework done on their own time, and even maybe do it in aregular free, but not in a mandatory study hall. Even though you can meet with teachers during your study halls it would be way easier if you did not have to check in every time, and could operate during your own free period. In some cases working alone instead of in a room with others can be more peaceful and quiet and they help to be more productive. Some students would argue that study halls are more productive, but that doesn’t mean that they should be mandatory. It also takes away the opportunity for students to hang out with their friends. Ultimately shifting to an optional study hall would benefit students in more ways than one, students could achieve great time management skills along with more productive use of time.
