James Gunn’s most recent film “Superman” gave a much needed reboot to the DC cinematic universe. The past failures under Dan Schnyder directing left the fans of classic superheroes like Batman and Superman dissatisfied, and looking for more. Superman, a traditionally light hearted superhero, had been put into a role of a dark, joyless role, with little help from the writing he was given. Although Henry Cavil was a great choice to cast, his movies left a sour taste in the mouth of fans. The rest of the movies, including “Justice league” were just all around terrible films, with downright awful dialogue and a questionable plot. Having just a two hour run time, this left sour tastes in many of the mouths of fans of the DC universe everywhere. This movie got 39% rotten tomatoes, and a 6/10 IMBd rating. This led to much lead up to the eventual release of the superman movie in July. This movie in my opinion was all around amazing.
Watching it most recently on a plane, the movie was still amazing outside of theaters. The beginning of this movie helped give us a quick and solid background in just a few lines of text, giving us a timeline. It then moved into Superman’s Iconic locations, like the daily planet and the fortress of solitude, as well as an iconic villain in ultra man being in the movie as well, and Lex Luther. The casting of this movie was amazing, with David Cornswet doing an amazing job as a comic accurate Superman that wants to help the community and save people rather than what we saw with a darker superman in the past. Besides superman, I thought these actors were really able to capture the role that they were in, especially Lex Luther. Watching the movie it really did feel like he hated him and wanted him gone.
This movie had some amazing scenes, especially at the end of the movie it was very suspenseful and had fans on the edge of their seats. The reveals throughout the movie, along with the comedy here and there made for an amazing movie and a great time watching. Some other movies like it are “Fantastic Four:First Steps”, “Captain America: the First Avenger”, and “Guardians of the Galaxy”.
