Are Disposable Cameras Worth The Investment Today?
Purchasing vintage style disposable cameras, may not be as sustainable as you think.
A group of people having fun. A camera to capture the moment. The memories to hold on to and look back at. Film cameras. Making the moments last.
People have become so used to taking pictures with digital cameras and smartphones that disposable and film cameras have become a popular way of taking pictures because it is “different”.
Coming out in 1986, disposable cameras originally cost $1.29. With the new uprise in these cameras, big retailers have taken advantage of people’s desire for them and they now sell them for around $18. Disposable cameras can take up to 27 pictures and to access these pictures, you must get them developed.
Developing pictures often take long and can make people grow impatient, but there are some ways to get your photos back quicker. Instead of going to your local Walgreens or CVS that would normally take four to six weeks to get your pictures, you can go to a local camera shop and it will only take around three days. This supports small businesses and makes photo development more efficient.
With film cameras gaining popularity, many people question if they are worth it. Your smart phone is free of charge since you already own it, but you do not get the “vintage look” on your picture. For vintage looking pictures, it is cheaper to invest in a film camera if you take film photos often, that way you will not have to keep buying disposable cameras and then throwing them out once the photos are developed. If you want to capture fun moments from one day or a weekend, then disposable cameras are worth it because they are cheap compared to a film camera. Disposable cameras can also be good for vacation to prevent you from losing your expensive camera. If you use disposable cameras often it may be worth your money to invest in a vintage film camera where you can reload the film.
