The New Head of Flik – Michael Yanez
Dedicated, hardworking, passionate, and prepared are some of the many words that can be used to describe the new Head of Flik Staff at Hackley, Michael Yanez. Despite his busy schedule, Mr.Yanez was kind enough to let me interview him. He wore a nice suit and tie as well as a smile that was visible albeit covered by a mask. He has great faith in the culinary team and their potential. He is no stranger to managing large teams like the Flik at Hackley team. He worked in health care for about 5 ½ years and oversaw 80-100 employees within the kitchen at White Plains Hospital and Nyack Hospital. He is well prepared, having a background with food services for over 12 years. Some fun facts about him is that he is originally from California, has cared for celebrities before, and he has 2 Shiba Inus. Mr.Yanez, like many of the study body, loves sushi. He said he could have it every weekend if he wanted. He holds many positive qualities that will help him perform his best at Hackley. He deeply appreciates feedback whether it is from the students, teachers, or other faculty members.
Mr.Yanez believes that communication is key when it comes to having a successful and diverse team. He is working towards a more inclusive menu at Hackley, one that contains food from many different cultures. He also plans on revamping The Well in the Johnson Center, and opening it up to students. Overall, Mr.Yanez has many exciting plans to pique the culinary curiosities of the Hackley dining community.
