What Dedication and Hard Work Makes: Shaun Kim
Saber’s clashing, sweat dripping, heart thumping! Fencer Shaun Kim has now grown accustomed to these feelings. Shaun Kim is one of the most accomplished young fencers in the country. Achieving over 5 gold medals and even winning the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. He is currently the number one fencer in the nation for his age group, a Class A fencer, and is only getting better.

Shaun started fencing when he was in 2nd grade at the Tim Morehouse Fencing Academy. Originally he did not enjoy the sport a lot. This was because at the start of his fencing journey, he was not very good. He would keep on losing match after match. Shaun hated the fact that he was losing all the time and really wanted to quit. Shaun’s parents really helped him through this low point in his fencing journey. They gave him the confidence he needed to believe that he could reach the summit.
As he got older, with a new flame lit inside of him, the grit and determination Shaun had became unfathomable. He would skip out on social events to train, wake up early in the morning to get a workout in, and would eat super healthy. The focus he had was impossible to break, and had a mindset of a champion.
Shaun continued his fencing lifestyle and it eventually started paying off. He became a class A fencer, and was winning tournaments all around the world and had become one of the top fencers in the world. His name was known throughout the fencing world and was taking home gold medals everywhere.
The mindset and attitude which Shaun has developed from fencing has helped shape the person he is today. When faced with a challenge, he never doubts himself because he knows what he’s accomplished. Shaun said “Whenever there is a big assessment coming up, I don’t stress because I know I can do it, and I have confidence in myself.” Fencing has given him some of the most important life skills a person would need. He has the confidence, mindset, attitude, determination, and grit of an adult at the age of 15.
