Students bustle down campus dressed in Hackley pajamas and faces covered in eye black, chatting about the games that they’re about to see and fun activities they’re about to participate in. A crowd is surrounding the girl’s soccer game watching Gemma Lasky tear up the field. While in the lower fields, the girls in field hockey were eating Riverdale up. The boys soccer team is fighting off Riverdale as much as they can, but the one thing all students are excited about is the night game coming up.
This year, many students have to say goodbye to the exciting buzz of the night football game and walking around Hackley’s campus with friends. For many seniors, this Sting was extra special because it was their last one. It was their last time to see Hackley’s campus a buzz and experience the Hackley friday night lights with their friends.
Senior football player, Jake Wade, summed up the feeling of the overall senior pretty well by saying that the Sting for him as a senior, “is really special.” and that, “The experience is unmatched.”
The football team this year won their game 8-6, it was a proud win for Hackley. Many seniors state that they look forward to the night games and often have the most fun times during the night games. There’s something about the Friday night lights, the run up from Saperstein arch and the fun crowd that is accompanied by the games that makes the Sting so special. For many seniors, the night games are their favorite memories.
Jake Byrne, a senior who plays football and lacrosse stated his favorite memory from a previous Sting was, “sophomore year at spring Sting we had a night lax game and we were winning by a good amount and I was starting that game. But the crowd cheering my name was pretty cool. That I was able to play was a pretty cool experience.”
The experience of the Sting is different for every student. For newer students, the Sting may be a brand new experience and immensely exciting, while for older students who have been going to Hackley for most of their lives, the experience is not as exciting. One thing that all students can agree on is that as a senior, the Sting is extremely special.
Student body president, EJ Regalado, who’s also the manager for the football team, said that, “we’re ending with a bang. We’ve got my last night game Sting as a senior. And I’m really excited for that.”

Each Sting for Hackley’s seniors are full of support, excitement and joy. It’s their last year to join their friends for the fun that’s about to ensue. It’s their time to shine on the fields and watch as the school lights up with the buzz of the night. This year’s Sting was our seniors’ last hurrah.
