18-2019, the video game known as “Fortnite Battle Royale” exploded with its player count boosting from 30 Million in 2017 to 250 Million in 2019. This era of Fortnite was known as the “OG” era according to the people who played th

e video game. Before the release of “OG Fortnite”, the video game started to have a lack of popularity. The new updates and weekly add-ons to the game did not change their popularity. The creators of Fortnite, “Epic Games”, started to see this issue, and decided to bring back “OG Fortnite” before they released “Chapter X”, where “OG Fortnite” was released on November 3rd of 2023 for exactly 1 month.

c Games announced OG Fortnite’s return, social media went crazy. Everyone on Instagram, Tiktok, and Twitter were tweeting or writing about the return of Fortnite. People, including myself and my friends, went absolutely nuts, a dream came true.

It was a long awaited moment and its release did not go unnoticed. The second school and work ended on Friday afternoon, everyone rushed home to their console to play OG Fortnite again. Most students at Hackley who enjoyed the game during its prime were online to play once again.

It was a flare. Millions of people, myself included, got on their devices to play their childhood game once again. So many people got onto the game the first couple of days that the online servers crashed. The game company Epic Games even had to make a queue on the loading screen of the game as their servers could not accept so many players all at once. Players were complaining about how long the queue was though they still took the time and waited to be accepted into the game. 

OG Fortnite accumulated over 40 Million players during the month of its release. To keep the

ir player count, Epic Games stated that each week they will change the season on OG Fortnite, allowing for fan-favorite weapons, vehicle

s, and locations to be accessible. The true prime Fortnite seasons returned

 each week of “OG Fortnite”, November 3rd to 9th, Season 5, November 9th to 16th, Season 6, and so on until December 2nd. This kept the game’s player base

 engaged and entertained throughout the month. Because of this, I was playing with my friends for hours and hours each day, not saying a word of negativity.

No one I knew was talking about any other video game online, everyone’s attention was on OG Fortnite. Weekends on weekends were spent playing the video game of most people’s childhood, and it was all worth it. Fortnite’s prime before COVID was an important part of my life, and seeing it release again made this year such a great year which leads me to believe that OG Fortnite was the best part of the year 2023.
