- Movie/Show: “Jet Lag: The Game” (commonly known as Jet Lag). Jet Lag, a geography reality show inspired by the Amazing Race, was created in 2022 by Sam Denby, a content creator who runs Wendover Productions a educational explainer YouTube channel with over a Million subscribers. Jet Lag, which has eight seasons so far, and filmed its ninth, plays a board game competition except over a geographic location with its competitors competing challenges based around the region they are competing in. The show is based on YouTube to allow anyone to watch with an internet connection, and they stream every episode a week early on video platform site Nebula, a site partly founded by Mr. Denby. Seasons include: “Connect 4 Across America”, where they transformed the Western United States into a connect four board and had competitors race to complete challenges at the State Capital to claim states. Their most popular season by far, averaging three million views on YouTube, was “Tag Eur It!” where they played a giant game of tag across Europe. YouTube; Nebula
- Place I visited: Galapagos. Over winter break I took the once in a lifetime trip to the remote islands and it instantly became one of my favorite trips with all the activities, wildlife, and fun I had on the trip.
- App: Instagram. Since getting Instagram in the summer of 2022, I have loved the platform as a way to see what is going on in the world and also getting to see and share other people’s ideas with my friends. Instagram, made by Meta, is one of the most popular social media platforms in the world with over one billion users, allows for me to see what other people are doing or what is going on, and allows me to connect with friends online outside of school.
- Sporting Event: Cincinnati Bengals @ Pittsburgh Steelers: Being a Steelers fan, this started the Steelers playoff push with quarterback Mason Rudolph making his first start of the season under center, following the injury of starter Kenny Pickett, and the benching of backup Mitchell Trubisky. While I wasn’t able to make it, I watched with my family and my friends sending me videos, with the Steelers winning 34-11 (their first 30+ point game in over a year!).
