Free Time at Hackley: A Glimpse into What Students Do in Their Free Time
Students in the Upper School have free periods built into their daily schedule, among the free time often available during Community Time, lunch periods, and other times before and after school.
Students often retreat to Akin Common, a large common space with tons of sun and shade – offering space for everybody to hang out together.
Spikeball is very popular among students in warmer weather, with students often playing with one another during common free periods and during lunch periods there are a lot of students enjoying the popular game.
A flight of stairs away from Akin Common is the Johnson Courtyard. This space is often more quiet and peaceful than Akin during the day – with flowers, benches, and seasonally a fountain running providing a more peaceful outdoor area to do work or eat lunch with friends.
The Tuck offers a variety of snacks, including chips, cookies, ramen, cereal, Mac and cheese, and candy in the afternoons.
They also offer baked goods, smaller snacks, and other frozen treats that you can heat up in the space.
Between the Tuck Shop, Akin Common, the Courtyard, among the Library, Hackley students spend their free time in many different spaces – allowing them to socialize with friends, play spike ball, or get work done during their free time.
