Everyday walking around Hackley, the campus is bustling with students, but what is really the most popular place to hang out for each grade? A survey was sent to each grade and there were between 15-30 students from each grade who responded which shows a large percentage of the grades opinion. Throughout each form the library was either first or second place and this shows the popularity of it. No matter the time, there will always be students in the library.
For example, in the freshman form the results were that 18 out of the 30 students who responded favored the library. A freshman student in response to the form proclaimed “It’s really pretty, peaceful, and there are fewer distractions than there are at the library for when I need to better focus on my schoolwork” In second place for the freshman we had Akin common with six students and in third place the Tuck with 3 votes.
For the sophomore form we had similar results of the library being in first place again with 9 of the 21 students voting for it. Again like the freshman form in second place the sophomores had Akin common with 6 votes. In response to the form a student said that they liked akin common because “it’s nice being outside” and another student saying “for the flexible seating.” Lastly, in third place was the Johnson Center with 3 votes.
For the Junior form there was a split vote for first place between the Junior hallway and the Library, each getting 5 out of the 17 total votes. One student said that they liked Junior Hallway because it is “Isolated from most of the other grades.” In third place for the junior form was a popular one, Akin. Something to observe is the fact that when looking over the junior form, in the section to fill out if your true answer was not listed a student put “home.” This could be a solemn cry, a plea for help, that is seen as a joke.
The senior form had a clear winner: the senior lounge, collecting 18 out of 25 votes. This is primarily because of the comfy couches and the separation from the other grades that the senior lounge has. One senior said that the lounge is “comfortable and shared community basically exclusively for seniors.” In second place for the seniors was the library, which is extremely popular across each grade level. For third place there was a three way tie between the Johnson Center, The lunchroom, and the Tuck.
The popularity of the library is most likely because of the amount of people the library can hold. The library is big and has seats and couches all over. This makes it very accessible to do work in the quiet wing, talk with friends in a private room, or sit on the comfortable couch.
The same goes for the Senior Lounge, it is very comfortable with couches and chairs, but its best factor is the isolation it has from the other grades. It is an exclusive senior hangout. In addition the Junior Hallway is popular because it is an exclusive spot for juniors to sit and do work. It may not be very comfortable but they are separated from the other grades.
For the underclassmen, the common votes went to the community places such as the library, the Tuck or Akin common. However the upperclassmen votes were different because they racked up more votes for their grades’ communal space than the school’s communal space. This may be because of the comfort of the upperclassmen areas or that the older grades feel more comfortable when they are not surrounded by the younger students.
