With the incoming month, lives on Hackley High School Campus are changing with the seasons. Students are altogether a united community; however, each individual is leading their own unique life. New challenges may come up and really test the endurance of someone while another is doing well in the same aspect, especially to the new students.
With the diverse student body, holidays recognized all around the world are celebrated by different communities at Hackley. Others may wonder: how are other people’s lives changing during this time? How are they affected by this? Now is the time to look into it.
Kieran O’Connor is a ninth grade student, who is new and is shifting into the culture of Hackley High School.
“I’m a new student and I live in the city, so it’s definitely a change,” Kieran said.
Compared to last year, the commute to school has drastically changed from ten minutes to 45, making the mornings much more difficult.
So far, Kieran has only been getting busier, balancing football practice and academic aspirations. However, the football season has recently ended, opening up much more time after school, allowing him to search for new opportunities with the oncoming shifting of time.
Not only Kieran, but also new student Rita Muriithi has been working hard to adjust to this new school life. Her expectations for high school have proven to dramatically change from middle school. Just like Kieran, her mornings have been much more different than last year from waking up at 8:00 to 7:00 which makes her days much harder.
In comparison to her old school, she has observed that the school culture in terms of freedom is much looser with multiple free periods in her schedule and a variety of places to hang out at Hackley. She has also noticed that the student body is much more united even when groups with new students have been forming. Now, she is still learning to manage her time and getting used to her new life.
Chloe Traverzo, a new student, is also observing changes in her life. This fall has proven to be much different than the ones at her previous school with a new environment.
“I’ve become more quiet as a person. I think I observe more rather than talking, and maybe it’s because I left my old school and I was with them for nine years,” said Chloe.
Despite the differences, she has been making an effort to branch out, and now, she has more friends, making her days less awkward from the beginning of the school year. With the soccer season ending, Chloe is getting ready for indoor track and new chances.
Even though fall may seem like a mundane season, one exciting thing coming up is Halloween, which is a big part of the students’ lives at Hackley.
Oh Halloween, Chloe is going to her cousin’s trunk or treat and heading to the city after. For the weekend, she is dressing up as Pennywise and a bunny.
Just like Chloe and the other previous students, Mehr Vora has been celebrating since she was young. She plans on going out with her friends on the weekend just like the others.
“I’m dressing up as a mermaid with my friend on Saturday, and I’m not sure about Friday,” Mehr said.
Jordan Silverman plans her costume, Rapunzel, for the weekend as well. She has been celebrating Halloween for fourteen years, and every year, she looks forward to it.
“I’m really excited for Halloween because I’ll get to see all of my friends and have fun,” Jordan said.
Zoe Park, on the other hand, has no idea what she is going to be. She too has been celebrating Halloween since she was a kid. This year, she will be throwing together a costume at the last minute and going trick-or-treating with her friends.
Halloween is an exciting time for all the students at Hackley, no matter what people are doing or what they are being.
