Some would argue that the move ‘Leap!’ is bland and lacks distinctive characteristics. Movie critics online have said that this movie is basic while differing opinions claim that this movie’s positivity and encouraging themes are contagious. Watchers have concluded controversial messages taken from the movie.
‘Leap!’ starts at an orphanage in Brittany, France, following the main character and aspiring ballerina, Felicie Le Bras and her best friend, Victor. Ever since she was a baby, Felicie has been interested in ballet because it has been the one thing connecting her back to her late mother.
The chaotic pair are always finding a way to escape the orphanage, and one night, they run off to Paris where they are suddenly separated. Felicie finds the Paris Opera Ballet, her ultimate goal, where she realizes she has had no formal training. In a position of desperation, Felicie does whatever it takes in order to achieve her dream while Victor explores his inventing talents.
Through her unrelenting efforts and questionable methods, Felicie displays how her perseverance is able to support her success even when pushed back. Due to her unfortunate background, Felicie was unable to have the same opportunities as her foe Camille Le Haut who was born into a rich family with connections to the opera.
However, Felicie makes herself distinct because of her raw passion and self-drive to participate in the ballet. She makes it an essential part of her life and does not let other people define her identity.
I feel this movie is an animated masterpiece. While showing the complexities of life for people of all ages, it shows how life isn’t always a straight line. Even though Felicie keeps trying, she is constantly pushed back. However, she doesn’t give up, and I think that is a very important lesson for readers to learn.
This movie can be enjoyed by any background or age. It’s perfect just for children to enjoy by themselves, altogether as a family, or even for people at an older age.
