Recently, many news articles have been reporting that airlines are encouraging passengers to wear formal wear on airplanes. Many today like to wear sweatpants and hoodies, however many airlines are calling for a new ‘dress code’. Airlines call this ‘The Golden Age of Travel Starts With You’.
Airlines are encouraging a fancier era of traveling. This new dress code encourages travelers to dress up in jeans and a nicer shirt instead of wearing pajamas and slippers. In older times such as in the 1900’s, people would dress nicer compared to an average person who wears sweats aboard. Airlines are also encouraging nicer manners, and respect to all.
Airlines are encouraging a new era of respect because they want to bring back travel courtesy and etiquette. Airlines also believe that dressing with respect would make a healthier and more respectful environment for everyone.
Is this really the new golden age of traveling? Experts are saying no. Due to the crammed seats in economy, wearing sweat pants and a hoodie makes the experience more comfortable. If one was wearing fancier clothes in the tight spaces it would be harder to manage. Instead, travelers are encouraging more respect from cabin crew, food service and easier security and check in points. Overall, I believe that this isn’t the new golden age of travel. Traveling in sweats makes the travel process easier and a whole lot more comfortable. Dressing fancier doesn’t make anything easier or better, but using kind manners should be encouraged and keep being enforced as is.
